The History of Influenza
Written by Carolyn Dean, MD, ND
It is said that “the victor gets to write the history,” and because modern medicine holds such a stranglehold on our medical system, it is sometimes very hard to obtain balanced information about medical matters. Worse yet, public policy and many laws support only the views espoused by modern medicine. Consequently, those of us who know the power of natural healing are often left on our own to seek out information in order to fill in the gaps.

Happy New Year! The beginning of the year is always a great time to focus on our health and look at (visualize) what we see for these coming months. Change is challenging and yet most of us know what we can do to live more healthfully and to have greater results in our health and vitality, as well as, our work, relationships and finances.
The Foundation of Wellness
Written by Doctor Parris Kidd
All of us want to be healthy in body and mind. We also like to be well. Wellness builds upon the health of body and mind with positive spirituality and hope for self-realization. Wellness is a prerequisite for reaching our full potential as human beings, and the key to being healthy and well is to have a soundly developed, personalized nutrient program.
Modern Western society as a whole talks the talk about health and wellness but doesn’t walk the walk. In these societies the food supply is controlled by big business, not primarily in order to support wellness but to generate profit. Similarly, the profit-driven health care industry mainly pushes drugs. Together, the bad qualities of our food combine with the toxic aspects of most of our pharmaceuticals to undermine health and wellness.
We have all heard the sayings, “Home is where the heart is,” “There’s no place like home,” and “A house is not a home.” For most, “home” is a place of refuge from the world where we can find safety, shelter and comfort. It is the place where we can simply be ourselves, relax and escape from the external demands of our worldly lives. We raise our children in our homes; it is the central place from which we offer them our protection, love and guidance. We invite people into our homes to share and enjoy our hospitality. We decorate our homes with the objects we love, with sentimental items from our pasts and in the style and colors that reflects who we are. Truly, our “homes” are extensions of ourselves.
What exactly does it mean when you see sunscreen or sunblock on a product label? The store shelves offer so many to choose from, no wonder it can get a bit frustrating. Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not updated their sunscreen safety standards since 1978. In June of 2011, FDA posted new rules for sunscreen products to help clear up some of the confusion. The new stricter guidelines mandate products to describe how well the product protects your skin.
Choosing to Live
Written by James Rohr, AP
As we head into 2011, this is the perfect time to
check in with our purpose for living. Particularly
if a goal for the New Year is to feel better than
ever; we must spend time contemplating our purpose.
According to an energetic interpretation of Chinese
medicine, a lack of purpose often leads to internal chaos,
deficiency, and stagnation. And when we are weak or
stagnant, illness happens.
Stress and the Immune System
Written by Hyla Cass, MD
It is almost impossible to exist in today’s world without stress. We all feel it: the pressures of job, home, kids, health, finances, you name it. Never before in history have humans had so much to do, and we rarely have a chance to catch our breath.
On one hand, stress isn’t always bad. It can be a motivator, helping to get you out of bed in the morning and sending you to the office, or giving you a surge of energy when you need it to escape danger.
Communication is Key
Written by Gwen M Hurd, LCSW, ACSW
Communication is the foundation of all relationships, whether it occurs within our families, with friends or at work. How we communicate directly relates to the quality of an experience or relationship. Communication operates on two levels: internal and external. Paying attention to the messages we give and receive can assist us in knowing what emotional work needs to take place to create healthy productive relationships. Learning to understand our internal communication is vital to clearer communication with others.
