Stress plays havoc with your system
Let's face it, everyone is stressed these days. According to Kenneth Pelletier PhD, author of Mind as Healer, Mind as Slayer and scientific board member of the American Institute of Stress, between 80-90 percent of all illnesses are linked to stress and 75-90 percent of all visits to the doctor are for stress and anxiety-related concerns.
Water You Made Of?
Written by Brad King, MS, MFSAny way you look at it, you are mostly water! The question is, if you take water for granted, aren't you in essence taking yourself for granted? Your brain and muscles are three-quarters water. Your blood and lungs are over 80% water. Even your bones are one-quarter water. Next to oxygen, water is unquestionably the most important nutrient for sustaining life. Then why don't the majority of us drink enough of it?
Abundant energy is the thing that truly defines youth. When we are young, our bodies have a tremendous ability to maintain the repair process. In science, we call this anabolic metabolism, or having the ability to repair our cells faster then they are broken down. Anabolic metabolism also creates an effective fat burning and muscle enhancing atmosphere. In other words, instead of merely living, we feel truly alive.
The body fat-disease link
Everybody wants to live a long and healthy life. But, if you carry excess body fat on your frame, then you may be setting yourself up for a shorter lifespan than the one you were aiming for.
Excess body fat is directly linked to so many diseases that it can no longer be thought of as solely a cosmetic issue. Cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke, numerous cancers, gallbladder disease, immune dysfunction, sleep apnea, infertility, and osteoarthritis (degeneration of the cartilage and bone in the joints) are just the tip of the iceberg. The more body fat you have on your frame, the higher your risk of checking out well before your time.
If you are like most people, you believe that your genes have predetermined just about everything about you. As you look in the mirror each morning perhaps you see your mother's eyes or your father's smile. You may also be convinced that your genes have already predetermined the illnesses you are destined to suffer. In her book, Living Downstream, Dr. Sandra Steingraber describes her health challenges in living with bladder cancer. Because her mother, uncle and grandfather had all died of various forms of cancer, many people who knew Sandra assumed that she had inherited cancer genes. They were not aware that Sandra had been adopted. Her cancer, she believed, was caused by exposure to environmental pollution as a child. This reminds us of the fundamental truth where supposed genetic predispositions are concerned: external conditions-the circumstances to which your genes are exposed-contribute either to maximum wellness or to disease, accelerated aging and premature death.
America has one of the highest cancer rates in the world, and cancer is the most dreaded disease in our society. Once rare, affecting less than one in a thousand, by 1900 cancer affected 30 in a thousand. It is estimated that 1,638,910 men and women (848,170 men and 790,740 women) will be diagnosed with and 577,190 men and women will die of cancer of all sites in 2012.1 The situation has become so bad that almost all Americans over the age of 50 have cancer! For example, it is known that after age 50, 40 percent of men have prostate cancer and 40 percent of women have breast cancer, and these are just two cancers. Cancer is also increasing among children and, after accidents, it is their biggest killer. We need to teach people how to prevent and reverse this tragic disease.

What is Arthritis?
Written by Dr. Brent Barlow
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common degenerative joint disease and one of the most common medical conditions. X-ray studies have shown OA to affect about 50% of the adult population. OA can affect any joint but most commonly affects the weight bearing joints like the knees, hips, and spine. OA often affects other high use joints like the ankles, shoulders, wrists, hands, and digits. OA usually starts to develop in your 20's and becomes symptomatic in your 40's.
Lily Tomlin got it right when she declared, “For fast-acting relief,
try slowing down.” The award-winning actress and comedienne
was no doubt talking about the effects of stress. And stress is no
friend when it comes to warding off the signs of aging.
Getting Gassed—HEALTH BENEFITS of HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY (HBOT)
Written by Gloria Gilbère, DAHom, PhD
Using atmospheric pressure to treat patients isn’t new—
the process was actually introduced in the 1600s by a
British clergyman. Oxygen didn’t become the gas of
choice until the 1930s, when the military discovered oxygen
saturates hemoglobin in the blood—assisting faster healing of
military personnel wounds.
Medical studies show that for some conditions 100 percent oxygen has beneficial effects when breathed in a chamber under higher-than-normal atmospheric pressure. HBOT, as it’s called, is a painless procedure having dramatic results for certain diseases/disorders/injuries. For example, when a wound doesn’t heal because of insufficient blood supply, HBOT can increase blood vessel growth into the wound—permitting skin grafting or rapid healing. HBOT is not simply a treatment for decompression illness in scuba divers or carbon monoxide poisoning anymore; it is an adjunct therapy to other care delivered by physicians and surgeons.
