We have often heard all the answers to our most important questions are inside us. We are told by all of the world’s spiritual traditions that by following our truth, inner voice, or intuitive knowing, we can find within ourselves the answers to life’s problems. And we know even when we seek advice from others, acceptance of their counsel must first be congruent with our own inner sense. Nevertheless, connecting to our innate knowing is difficult to attain at times, especially when we find ourselves in situations where we feel blocked, hopeless or trapped.

Let’s get real. Some foods make it really difficult to lose weight. They create their own self-sustaining cravings (“Betcha can’t eat just one!”) and play havoc with your blood sugar and, ultimately, your waistline.

But some foods do just the opposite.

By now almost everyone knows how great foods like broccoli and blueberries are and how they can help you lose weight, but here are some foods you may not have thought of when you first saw the title of this article. Yet every one of these foods (and one beverage) meets at least one major criteria of being a superfood for weight loss. Make these foods part of your daily diet and watch the pounds come off!

DHA stands for DocosaHexaenoic Acid, the most important omega-3 nutrient. DHA is a fatty acid that is naturally built into our biochemistry. Two-time Nobel prizewinner Linus Pauling dubbed these “ortho” molecules, “right” nutrients for the body. Ortho nutrients typically are extremely effective and extremely safe, and DHA fits this pattern.

Research reveals Pycnogenol® and CoQ10 taken as an adjunct to medication improves heart health: blood volume output, physical fitness, blood pressure, as well as heart and respiratory rate

A study published in Panminerva Medica reveals that a Pycnogenol and Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) combination (PycnoQ10 ®) taken by stable heart failure patients as an adjunct to medical treatment naturally strengthens the heart, increasing the blood volume ejected with each beat. As a consequence, the oxygen-rich blood supply to the organs improves, and patients become more physically energetic. Furthermore, blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory rates were improved among patients. Pycnogenol (pic-noj-enall) is an antioxidant plant extract from the bark of the French maritime pine tree and has been clinically proven to improve endothelial function and blood flow. As evidenced by this study, Pycnogenol, in combination with CoQ10, offers a potent contribution to heart health management.

Today many health conscious adults attempt to maintain a youthful appearance by exercising, taking growth hormone enhancers and using expensive cosmetics. Researchers agree the major visible signs of aging in the skin, joints and eyes are a result of progressive collagen and hyaluronic acid (HA) degradation in our tissues. They propose that supplementation may actually reverse signs of aging.

Normal Skin Structure and Function
Normal skin function requires the presence of normal physiological substances in and around the skin cells. Of the many substances required for the normal functioning of the skin, collagen is one of the most important. It provides structural support to skin, thereby maintaining the skin tone, suppleness and elasticity, giving the skin its amazing beauty. Without sufficient collagen, our body would literally unravel itself from the seams, losing its connective properties and its ability to hold together, causing sagging and wrinkles associated with old age.

MSM is a naturally-occurring nutrient, a sulfur compound, found in normal human diets and the diets of all other vertebrates. Sulfur is an element present in all living organisms. It belongs in the same chemical family which includes oxygen. For organisms living in environments where there is no oxygen, sulfur often replaces oxygen as the source of chemical energy that drives life. It is not a pharmaceutical drug but a dietary supplement.

Cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) has long been cherished for its nutritional and medicinal properties. The fruit is juicy and tart and contains a range of valuable nutrients including vitamin C, flavonoids, flavonols and phenolic compounds. The primary flavonoids in cranberry are proanthocyanidins (also referred to as condensed tannins). Benzoic acid is the major phenolic compound while the major flavonols are quercetin and myricetin.

Life’s journey brings stress out of nowhere, and it is our ability to cope with it that determines our success in defeating depression and anxiety in order to bring joy. The stresses of life are normal: relationships, work, environmental factors, illness, and other factors all frequently affect our health; but the key for the healthy person is to become educated in the ways to manage it. Diet, exercise, a spiritual component, and learning about dietary supplements such as Suntheanine can help manage the stresses of life.

Living a very long life with youthful vitality is a universal human longing. Now a nutrient is available with real promise to deliver this reality. The nutrient is resveratrol (res-ver-a-trol).

After almost two decades of intensive study, resveratrol has an exciting spectrum of benefits:

Taking Supplementation Seriously Part V

Choosing a quality dietary supplement can be an exercise in abstraction. As a class of product nestled somewhere in between food and drug, they lack many of the obvious quality measurements inherent to these two other categories (such as the sensory properties one uses to select quality produce, or the strict quality control procedures inherent to the manufacture of a government-regulated pharmaceutical). Until recently, the only way to assess the quality of a supplement (short of spending a personal fortune on lab testing), was from the synthesis of subjective data (brand reputation, marketing claims, and personal experience).
